STEP 1: WATCH THE HOW-TO VIDEO

Before you begin, make sure to watch this video all the way through. It’ll help you understand the full process and make your first casting as smooth as possible. We also recommend having a second person help out — especially when working with wiggly little hands and feet.

STEP 2: WATER TEMPERATURE

Water temperature affects how quickly or slowly the mold sets. Cooler water will slow things down, and warmer water will speed things up. For best results, use a thermometer to make sure your water is between 75 and 78 degrees Fahrenheit.

STEP 3: ADD WATER

Foot casting uses 2 cups of water — fill the provided foot container up to the water fill line.

If you’re casting a hand instead, use 1 cup of water in the hand molding cup or fill to the marked water fill line.

STEP 4: MIX STEP 1 MOLDING POWDER

Slowly add the Molding Powder into the water while stirring. Do not dump it all in at once — that can cause air bubbles. Mix for about a minute until it turns bright pink.

💡 TIP: The molding material will never be completely lump-free, and that’s okay.

STEP 5: DIP HAND OR FOOT

Wait until the mixture fades from bright pink to light pink. When the mixture turns light pink, that is when you dip your baby's hand or foot.
 
Gently dip your baby’s foot into the mixture. Wiggle slightly to avoid air bubbles and make sure not to touch the sides or bottom of the container.

STEP 6: LET IT SET, THEN REMOVE

Hold the foot in place for about 3 to 4 minutes until the mold sets. It will feel firm and should not stick to your fingers. Once it’s ready, gently wiggle to release and remove the foot.

STEP 7: ADD WATER TO BOWL

Now pour ½ cup of water into a clean mixing bowl. 

STEP 8: MIX STEP 2 CASTING STONE

Add one bag of the Casting Stone into the bowl and mix until smooth. Set aside 1 teaspoon of the mixture — you’ll use it later for touch-ups.

STEP 9: SLOWLY POUR, TILT, & TAP

Pour half of the Casting Stone mixture into the mold. Tilt and tap the container to release air pockets. This step is especially important to help avoid breaking fingers or toes in the casting.

STEP 10: POUR, TILT, & TAP AGAIN

Now pour in the rest of the Casting Stone. Tilt and tap the container again to ensure the mixture fills in every detail.

🚫 Don’t pour anything down the sink — discard leftover material in the trash.

STEP 11: LET YOUR LUNA BEAN SET

Let the casting sit and dry for at least 4 hours before removing it from the mold. This gives it time to fully harden, especially around the delicate areas. For best results, demold no more than 24 hours later.

STEP 12: REMOVE THE MOLD

To loosen the mold, gently pull on opposite sides of the container to break the suction. Then carefully slide the mold out.

STEP 13: DEMOLD CAREFULLY

Use your fingers or the plastic knife to gently peel away the molding material. Take your time — peel in small pieces to avoid damaging tiny toes or fingers.

STEP 14: CLEAN & TOUCH UP

Use the included detailing tools to clean off any extra material. You can also use the casting stone you saved earlier to fix any small imperfections.

STEP 15: LET YOUR LUNA BEAN DRY

Place the casting in a well-ventilated area and allow it to dry for 24 hours. Then you can use the sandpaper to smooth out rough spots. 

Before painting or decorating, let the casting dry for 3 to 5 days to avoid any mold or mildew.
